The 34-year-old Serbian left Old Trafford to join the Nerazzurri in July 2014 and made 28 competitive appearances for the San Siro side, scoring one goal.

A statement on Inter’s official website read: “Internazionale announces it has reached a mutual agreement for the termination of the contract of Nemanja Vidic”.

Former Manchester United star Vidic has previously been mentioned in the same circles as the capital club although DC general manager Dave Kasper played down the rumours last week. “Forza Inter forever!” added the 34-year-old.

While Vidic also thanked the club and the supporters as well as wishing them good luck in the future, it remains to be seen where he opts to move to next.

Vidic looked his age during his first season in Italy, however, and Inter invested in the likes of Jeison Murillo and Miranda, who have been among the top defenders in Serie A in 2015-16.

According to Football ITALIA, Vidic would probably move to Washington D.C. United in MLS.
