The family continued to say that while concerts and tributes to David are “welcome”, none of them have been “organized or endorsed” by his family.

In a statement posted on social media Thursday, Bowie’s family said it’s “overwhelmed” by the love and support.

Bowie, one of pop culture’s most influential figures whose career took him from glam rock to soul to science fiction films, died Sunday after an undisclosed 18-month battle with cancer.

Vevo, the music video service owned by Universal and Sony, hosts more than 60 David Bowie videos, including Space Oddity and The Jean Genie.

“Just as each and every one of us found something unique in David’s music, we welcome everyone’s celebration of his life as they see fit”. “He kept [his illness] private in an age we’re living in with Twitter when everyone knows everything about everything – he kept it to himself”, he said. “I didn’t know who I wanted to use”.

As his family mourns the loss of a beloved father and husband, fans honored the beloved singer.

The lyrics of Bowie’s biggest hits reverberated through the streets as they crooned in unison.

The singer later told the crowd: “We are know how inspiring he is”.

In an eerie coincidence, a tribute concert to Mr Bowie at New York’s Carnegie Hall had been announced moments before his death. The tribute was announced before his death, but will now be considered a memorial concert instead.
