Murder Victims Were Student Athletes at D-III School
Police are investigating a possible murder-suicide in which two college students and one former student were found stabbed to death near the State University of NY in Geneseo.

A junior hockey team in Chilliwack, B.C., is remembering a former player who once dressed as Santa Claus for a gift exchange and is now among the victims in a murder-suicide that left three people dead in NY state.
“Mr. Kingston was distraught over the breakup, which led to the events of yesterday”, Geneseo police spokesman Jeffrey Szczesniak said at a press conference Monday.
Police discovered the bodies of Kelsey Annese, 21, Matthew Hutchinson, 24, and Colin Kingston, 24, at 6 a.m. on Sunday morning at 18 Wadsworth Street, where Annese lived.
Kingston, who was not enrolled for classes this semester but was previously enrolled as a student, then stabbed himself with the same knife after calling his dad and telling him what he had done, police said. “When the phone call was terminated by Colin, shortly thereafter Colin [appeared to] have taken his own life”, Szczesniak said.
Geneseo did postpone a women’s basketball game that was scheduled for Tuesday against SUNY Cortland. Hutchinson was a senior from British Columbia and a member of the hockey team and Geneseo fire department.
The upstate campus chose to continue with the normal schedule despite the “difficult period of mourning”, according to Geneseo President Denise A. Battles.
Matt Hutchnson is seen in an undated photo provided by SUNY Geneseo. “We realize that members of our community will handle this tragedy differently”.
“We will be supplying professional counselling services for Kelsey’s teammates”.
Annese wore the number 32 on the basketball court because it is the same number her father wore when he played for Geneseo, according to a bio on the college’s website.
Ms Annese, from Webster, New York, was taking a degree in education, Spanish and psychology and played on the women’s basketball team.
Police say Kingston may have been motivated by anger that he was no longer in a relationship with Annese. He played for the Geneseo High School basketball team, the Democrat and Chronicle reported. “He put effort into these things like nobody else”.

There were no signs of forced entry or a struggle in the apartment, indicating Kingston may have surprised Annese and Hutchinson.
