Kate Del Castillo finally addressed everyone after news broke that she was involved with “El Chapo” while he was a fugitive. Three months later, Mexican marines raided a safe house in the city of Los Mochis and Guzman was arrested after fleeing through a storm sewer.

A Mexican government official confirmed the investigation to CNN.

Gomez said Penn was not under investigation for any crime.

In a new interview, as part of a piece which aired on USA news show 60 Minutes on Sunday (17Jan16), the Mystic River star confessed he knew his secret meeting with El Chapo, which was arranged by actress Kate del Castillo, was unsafe.

Gomez told the Mexican daily, “Even when there are indications, we need legal certainty”.

Investigators are looking into communications between the actress, Guzman and his lawyer that included comments like “we’re in business” and “we’re in this together”, Gomez said.

The actress has come under scrutiny since it was revealed that she exchanged affectionate text messages with Guzman and brokered the meeting between Penn and the Sinaloa drug cartel leader.

The Oscar victor interviewed El Chapo for seven hours during a meeting in the Mexican jungle previous year (15).

Authorities say the meeting between Penn, del Castillo and Guzman helped them locate the drug lord, though he managed to escape capture at that time.
