Like many famous personalities and members of the music industry, Jimmy Fallon took the time to pay tribute and give a message to the late David Bowie.

“Blackstar” was released two days before Bowie’s death and has been dubbed his “farewell album”, with mentions of death and heaven throughout its lyrics. It’s followed at No. 11 by “Under Pressure”, Bowie’s indelible collaboration with Queen, which was played more than 1.374 million times.

Bowie’s representatives have not explained what kind of cancer the 69-year-old died from, only that he died after “a courageous 18 month battle with cancer.” We began collaborating on our show, “Lazarus”, and at some point he took me to one side to say that he wouldn’t always be able to be there due to his illness.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Visconti said Bowie had known since November previous year that his cancer was terminal – but was anxious to make one more album.

People are remembering today what a phenomenal musician David Bowie was, and of course that was the case. Appearing alongside contemporary hits from the likes of Drake, Adele and Justin Bieber are Bowie classics like “Let’s Dance” and songs from his just-released album, “Blackstar”.

It’s a sentiment echoed by the producer of Blackstar Tony Visconti who called the record a “parting gift”, to his fans.

“David Bowie’s stunning and gracious wife raising money for Aids back in the day!”

However, it was reported that a memorial concert will be held March 31 in the Big Apple’s Carnegie Hall.
