Marietta College celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Those who have been marching since the very beginning say it is fantastic to see how the event has grown throughout the years.

On Monday dozens of people came together in Kingsport to remember Dr. King. Antonius Northern runs nPower South Bend.
“That there is a point to this holiday and it’s to recognize the situation of our prejudice and our racism and we’ve come a long way and we still have more to go”, said Colleen Parkin, U.S. History Teacher.
More than 300 volunteers total upwards of 1,200 hours of community service in an effort to spread Dr. King’s message of helping the community.
The San Antonio MLK march is often billed as one of the largest in the United States.
He tries to draw inspiration from Dr. King’s legacy, in order to take another step toward full equality. Woodlawn is about a high school football team and their dedication to love and unity in while being met with racism.
As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools”.
The service also included the presentation of the Martin Luther King Jr.
At the Martin Luther King Library on Locust Street, those coming and going could catch snippets of an all-day program in King’s honor.
As we look around today, more than 50 years after the dream speech, there is still work to be done.
“There is a completion in our hearts that says when we honor Dr. King and honor what he taught, it is doing the right thing for all of us”, Greg Depriest said.
“This is 2016. Where a child grows up should never determine where she ends up”, Castro said.
“We have a lot of opportunities, we can do more things now that most people do”, said Alvin Harper, a teen with Vision of Hope AME Church.
“We did what we could because we had to change the way African Americans were being treated or mistreated”, Jones said.

“I think it’s really important that any community that we’re living in to give back to say thank you to the people around us”, said Erin, “because it’s not even my real home but everyone’s been so welcoming to me here”.
