The service is not accessible from mobile or desktop.

The user is met with the infamous “Something is technically wrong” message when trying to access Twitter.com, while attempts to connect to Tweetdeck results in a blank page. “Thanks for noticing-we’re going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon”.

It is the third time in less than seven days that the social network, which is now struggling with a collapse in its stock price, has experienced outages.

The problem is being described as a “service issue”, which means “some users are now experiencing problems accessing Twitter. We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution”, the U.S. site said, without giving details of the cause of the outage.

An outage map created by downdetector.co.uk shows the problem affected users in Western Europe, including the United Kingdom, and in Japan. Based on news reports and comments on sites like the digital service interruption tracker Downdetector, Twitter’s content was unavailable via the Web and mobile devices.

Twitter was inaccessible worldwide for a while on January 19, 2016. Twitter’s official service page is yet to recognise the incident, but does mention a “service issue” the previous morning, which lasted for 10 minutes.

Twitter’s application programming interface, the system that other apps use to communicate with Twitter, also outed.

While folks panicked over missing breaking news and celebrity musings, Twitter managed to post a tweet about the issue-viewable only by those people it didn’t affect.

The hashtags #TwitterDown and #Twitterpocalypse were trending on both networks within minutes of the outage.
