Cruz, Trump fight it out in early primary states
The spat between the pair, who earlier in the campaign had called each other friends, has intensified since the Republican debate on January 14, when the Texan attacked reality television star Trump’s “New York values” and policy positions, including past support for abortion.

“Cruz is a very strong debater, but got in trouble challenging Donald Trump on NY values …” But, she added, “I like Ted”. Nobody likes him anywhere once they get to know him. And it is likely to be dominated by his increasingly nasty feud with Trump, who hovered over Cruz’s launch even as Cruz seems not completely eager to bash him in front of an audience.
“It’s a good idea. A total disgrace. So you know, I had to say it, I thought what he said was very sad”.
Donald Trump criticized Cruz for not revealing the truth about all the funds raised for his campaigns, and that he not only borrowed from Goldman Sachs, but also from Citibank. Ted Cruz’s recent disparaging remarks about New York City can be summed up in one word: “Asinine”.
The skit also jabbed at Trump’s frequent questions about Cruz’s eligibility to run for president because he was born in Canada to an American mother and Cuban father. He’s an unapologetic and proud New Yorker. Ted Cruz of Texas are going after each other with only two weeks left before the Iowa caucuses (video below).
In response, in a statement emailed to the Guardian, Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler said: “Do we really want a president who wakes up in the morning, checks his falling poll numbers then lashes out on Twitter?”. “I mean, they loaned him a million dollars, so they certainly have control over him”, Trump said on CNN’s “State of the Union”.
In addition to what he told the reporters last Monday, Texan Tribune mentioned that Cruz pointed out Trump’s excessive Twitter use by stating that Americans would opt for a leader that could calmly deal with a stressful situation.
“Anybody who was AWOL from the battle on the Gang of Eight has no standing as a candidate now to say they will enforce the border”, Cruz said of the comprehensive immigration bill pushed by Rubio in 2013.
Cruz has avoided any onstage attacks of Trump’s record since Thursday’s debate, when the two went after one another, instead unleashing his barbs for press gaggles after his events. “I recognize what Donald says on the campaign trail today is fairly conservative, but voters are discerning”.
