B.C. watchdog investigating two police killings
The Independent Investigation Office of British Columbia is probing a fatal shooting involving police in Surrey.

On Thursday, a man was shot outside the hotel where the major BC Hydro Site C dam was being discussed.
Officials have not yet said if the man who died was armed, and his identity has not been released.
On arriving, the RCMP officers ran into a man wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and thought he was connected to the complaint.
Anonymous, a loosely associated global network of activist and hacktivist entities, say they will use “vengeance if necessary” to seek justice for a man shot dead by police in Dawson Creek Thursday. The IIO says a team is en route to the city, while RCMP contain the scene.
One officer appears to kick something away from the man although the object can’t be seen.
Witness Andrea Taggart says the first thing she heard was a young man screaming.
Although police have confirmed the man who was shot was wearing a mask, authorities are not confirming whether it was the Guy Fawkes mask associated with Anonymous. The IIO also said investigators were not sure if the officers had tasers or other lesser means of force, which will be a key part of the investigation.
“This RCMP officer must be named, fired, and charged – for the murder of our brother Anon. And if we do not receive justice, rest assured there will be revenge”, the statement said.
The meeting in Dawson Creek was the last of five public consultations held this month.
“In this day of social media, we aware that there is a lot of information circulating out there”, Kilpatrick said.
Several First Nations and environmental groups have filed lawsuits to try to stop construction and the actions are now working their way through the courts.
Kilpatrick, the spokeswoman for the police watchdog, issued a clarification Friday night, saying two men – not one as was initially reported – were involved in the incident that happened as a public hearing for the contentious Site C dam was taking place. Saturday officers killed a distressed man in Surrey.
A smartphone video posted on social media Friday appears to show the aftermath of the shooting. One crouches near a cruiser with a long gun just before the video ends.
The IIO has not commented on the authenticity of the Facebook video.
