Ex-Boyfriend Suspected of Killing Two Students at SUNY Geneseo
The three people found dead at 18 Wadsworth St.in the village of Geneseo around 6 a.m. Sunday were Kelsey Annese, 21, of Webster, Matthew Hutchinson, 24, of North Vancouver, British Columbia, and Colin Kingston, 24, of Geneseo.

Kelsey Annese was a member of the SUNY women’s basketball team.
When police arrived at the home they found all three dead in the bedroom. Annese was a member of the women’s basketball team while Hutchinson was on the hockey team. Kingston, who brought a large knife he had recently purchased, found her with another student, Matthew Hutchinson, of Vancouver, British Columbia. He received a phone call from his son who told him he had harmed Annese before hanging up the phone and killing himself. Law enforcement was undertaking overnight parking enforcment, and there were several tickets issued at 5:30 a.m., Szczesniak said.
In a Sunday afternoon press conference, Jeffrey Szczesniak, the Geneseo Police Department’s public information officer, said it was too early in the investigation to label a suspect and, when asked if the crime was being investigated as a double murder-suicide, declined to confirm specifics.
There was no evidence that there had been a struggle and the altercation happened very quickly, Szczesniak said.
Police have recovered a knife they believe was used in the attacks.
None of those involved had a police record. “I think it hits those of us in another generation hard, thinking that someday you could get that call yourself”.
The paper also reported that Kingston, who had been a SUNY Geneseo student, but was not enrolled for the spring semester, was from a prominent family in the town with a presence dating back to the 1840s.
Though Tuesday’s men’s and women’s basketball games have been postponed, Battles said that the college’s Day of Leadership and Service, conducted annually to coincide with Martin Luther King Day, preceded as scheduled Monday.
“We can only speculate”, he said. “We take pride in that it’s not a very crime-ridden community”.
Hutchinson played defence for SUNY Geneseo’s hockey team, the Knights, and had an assist Saturday evening when the team defeated Franklin Pierce 6-2 in New Hampshire. He belonged to the Geneseo Volunteer Fire department.
Kelsey Annese is seen in an undated photo provided by SUNY Geneseo. Her coach, Scott Hemer, said the senior education major was selfless, and a grinder with a work ethic respected by her coaches and teammates.Kelsey will always be one of my all-time favorite players not because of anything she will have her name next to in the record book, but because of the type of person she was, Hemer said.
“I can say that Matt was really in the upper echelon of our department”, Geneseo Fire Chief Andrew Chanler told CNN affiliate WIVB.

Kingston graduated from Geneseo High School in 2009 and attended SUNY Geneseo, though he didn’t graduate. She said the school has offered its condolences to the victims’ families.
