Twitter says sporadic outages in many parts of globe resolved

During the outage, error messages claimed that the network was both “over capacity” and suffering an “internal error” both on desktop and mobile.

Service has mostly resumed for Twitter after a widespread outage Tuesday. It started around 3:40 a.m. ET and had yet to be resolved as of noon ET – making it one of the longest reported outages for the social media site. Service disruptions were reported by users worldwide. As of 8 a.m., some organizations (and Twitter users themselves) said that service was being restored, though some were still reporting technical problems. “We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution”, the United States site said, without giving details of the cause of the outage.

Smartphone users received the warning: “Tweets aren’t loading right now”. As BBC Technology writes, the outage would be particularly problematic for companies looking for data insights during the outage, as Twitter’s application program interface was also experiencing issues.

Tech news website re/code reported this month that tweets of up to 10,000 characters could be available from March, winning a mixed response from users. Also, in 2014, during the Academy Awards, Twitter was down for 20 minutes because host Ellen DeGeneres posted a selfie with several Hollywood stars.

Twitter’s looking for any boost in momentum after disappointing investors.

“(People) know that we post things about road closures, traffic delays, collisions and today it was, for the most part, information that couldn’t be obtained”. Meanwhile, the company’s stock continues to languish at an all-time low.
