Acts including Cyndi Lauper, The Roots and Ann Wilson of Heart will perform later this spring as part of a concert that honors Bowie, who died Sunday (January 10) after an 18-month battle with cancer. This came just days after Bowie released his incredible new album Blackstar, on his 69th birthday.

He was a man who was so many things to so many people that it’s hard to think of a facet of entertainment or popular culture that he wasn’t involved in at some point.

And the fact that David Bowie’s new album Blackstar was on course for number one this week, even before today’s awful news says everything about his continuing relevance – over 40 years since his first hit records.
George Underwood, one of Bowie’s oldest friends and the artist behind his most famous album covers, said he was thanked by the rock star in later years for causing him to have a permanently dilated pupil.
The video for the song Lazarus, from the new album, shows Bowie trapped in a hospital bed with bandages covering his eyes. “I wasn’t, however, prepared for it”. “He fought like a lion and kept working like a lion through it all”.

He told the BBC he received an email from Bowie a week before his death which he now believes was a farewell message. He will always be with us. “And it was signed ‘Dawn.’ I realize now he was saying goodbye”.
