Oculus Rift Now Available for Pre-Order for the Price of…$599
As announced earlier this week, Oculus opened pre-orders for the Oculus Rift, its new virtual reality platform, on Wednesday (January 6), and it won’t come cheap. This initial list of territories consists of the likes of the USA, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan and more, though there are some notable omissions. Oculus showed off Rift and most of the features back at a press event in June.

Luckey also said that Rift preorders won’t require any kind of payment, letting buyers cancel them up until they ship.
The hotly anticipated Oculus Rift VR headset is now available for pre-order for $599.
This morning Oculus Rift pre-orders went live on the company’s site.
Oculus Rift headsets will officially cost $599, and they will begin shipping to buyers at the end of March, USA Today reports. The only confusion is with the Touch Controllers, which the founder of Oculus, Palmer Luckey stated would be available along with VR headset. Oculus plans a certification program so consumers can look for a sticker on PCs that support the Rift.

Since Oculus’s Kickstarter beginnings, the company received several major rounds of funding before being acquired by Facebook in March 2014 for $2 billion. There’s the necessary sensor and cables, bundled Oculus Remote, an Xbox One Controller for playing EVE: Valkyrie (video above) and Lucky’s Tale, both titles also bundled alongside the headset. However, Kickstarter backers who got the original device will also be getting the consumer device for free.
