ALTOONA, Iowa-Donald Trump on Tuesday kicked off a final campaign sprint for the first presidential nominating contest, reveling in an attack from Iowa’s longtime governor against his chief rival, Sen.
“He is beholden to no one”.
The news came as Palin’s oldest son was arrested in a domestic violence case in which his girlfriend said she was afraid would shoot himself with an AR-15 assault rifle. In an interview with CNN last month, Palin was asked if she would support Cruz or Trump for president.
Palin, who often discusses her Christian faith, is popular among that group and endorsed Cruz when he ran for the U.S. Senate in 2012. “She can pick winners”.
As Trump stood alongside, Palin said: “The status quo has got to go”, adding that the political establishment had been “wearing political correctness kind of like a suicide vest”.
It’s still uncertain if Palin backing Trump in the USA presidential elections will give a significant boost to his campaign.
But even some former admirers have wondered if her moment had passed, particularly after a speech a year ago before conservative Iowa voters that at times was hard to transcribe and even harder to follow.
“I think it helps Trump overwhelm the news cycle with Trump coverage at a critical time”, he said.
Trump thanked Palin, calling her a “special” and “amazing” person.

“The president has to keep us safe economically and militarily”, stressed Palin, who rocketed to political stardom when John McCain plucked her from obscurity to be his running mate.
Since resigning her governorship in 2009, Palin has worked as a conservative political commentator and as the producer and star of lightly staged television shows about her large family enjoying Alaska’s rugged landscapes.
Earlier Tuesday, Cruz faced another blow to his efforts in Iowa, after the state’s Republican Gov. Terry Branstad said at a renewable fuels conference near Des Moines that Iowans should reject Cruz because he supports phasing out the fuel standard. Several referenced what many saw as her poor performance as a vice presidential candidate.
“I don’t think it’s going to be a detriment, but I don’t think it’s going to be a huge asset”, said Stephen Freese, 56, of Burlington, Iowa, who works in construction.
“I think she likes what she sees with in terms of what I’m talking about in trade”, Trump said, mentioning China, Japan and Mexico, along with his position on the military and on behalf of veterans.
Track Palin, 26, is charged with assault, interfering with the report of a domestic violence crime and possessing a weapon while intoxicated in connection with the incident Monday night at the Wasilla home of his parents, where he lives, according to an affidavit by police.

Trump began the day by receiving an endorsement from the daughter of iconic United States actor John Wayne.
