Pre-ordering the Rift will also give customers a place in line for advance orders of the Oculus Touch gesture-based controllers.
In development since around 2012, the Oculus Rift VR headset allows users to experience advanced VR gaming and more by using the headset with a comparable PC.
Like new consoles, new VR headsets are only as good as the games you can play on them.
For US $599, you get Oculus Rift headset, sensor, Oculus Remote, an Xbox One wireless controller and two free games, Lucky’s Tale and EVE: Valkyrie.
Not included in the cost is a PC with a top-notch video card and enough memory to handle the Rift’s demands.
The highly anticipated virtual reality device was expected to hit pre-order this week, but the price was previously unknown.

Preordered Oculus Rift units will start shipping in March. In regards to the price, supporters have claimed that the $600 is no different than the $700 people spend on iPhones. It bears mentioning that Oculus does have plans to sell Rift headsets bundled with “Oculus ready” PCs at around that price point, with pre-orders starting in February. Medical training, travel marketing, construction and design are other areas where virtual reality promises great potential, and a number of organizations have already been experimenting with such technologies, he said. There must be a lot of lurkers in the VR community.
