Slate’s Ben Mathis-Lilley raked Wasserman Schultz across the coals for the statement Monday, pointing out that if she’s not lying about the intentions of the debate schedule, she’s admitting to total failure.
As the head of the Democratic Party, DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is well-practiced at defending the indefensible, and that skill was on display Sunday when CNN’s Brian Stelter questioned the logic of holding a presidential debate on a Sunday night. “But she probably didn’t; she probably helped schedule the debates on objective on nights that TV audiences would be small so as not to give too much exposure to Hillary Clinton’s rivals”.
Wasserman Schultz is taking criticism from many quarters over the scheduling of the debates, the past few debates have gone up against college football and the opening of the new “Star Wars” movie.
One read of DWS’ intent to come to Jacksonville would be concern over Sanders energizing the Democratic grassroots beyond the early battleground states.
“People here on the ground – I hear left and right, you name it – are just dissatisfied that she’s not responsive, she takes people for granted, and it’s becoming evident in the way she votes on an bad lot of issues”, Canova said.
The four Democratic debates have yielded a cumulative viewership of about 42.5 million and the six Republican debates have had a cumulative viewership of about 103.7 million, PolitiFact reported, according to Nielsen ratings of same-day viewership.
The last Democratic debate was held the Saturday before Christmas.

The debate schedule actually seems to have worked against Clinton’s benefit, as she continues to plummet in the polls next to Democratic candidate Sen. The two highest Republican debates drew between 23 and 24 million viewers each.
