Star Wars Episode VIII Release Date Pushed Back In To December 2017
But fear not fellow Jedi, “Rogue One”, the first “Star Wars” spinoff film opens later this year on December 16.

Disney offered no reason for the delay, but rumours have recently swirled that writer-director Rian Johnson (‘Looper’) is rewriting the script. “Everyone wanted “Star Wars” stuff for the holidays, Christmas trees were decked out with BB-8 ornaments, and going to the film with your family added an even more emotional element to a film that already carried so much sentimental weight”, Disney said in its statement.
The hype for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” have started to die down, but the same thing can not be said for the next “Star Wars” installment, “Episode VIII”, as it continues to be subject of rumors.
The release of Star Wars: Episode VIII has been delayed from May 2017 to December 15, 2017, the Walt Disney Co. announced Wednesday.
With Star Wars: Episode VIII jumping to December, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will set sail on May 26, 2017, from its previously scheduled July 7, 2017, berth. Rodriguez reportedly didn’t make it and lost the role to an Asian actress, while it remains to be seen if Powley will land a role. This story will be set shortly before the events of Star Wars in 1977, and follow the journey of some rebel spies, looking to steal plans for the Death Star.
In the five weeks since its release, it has earned $861m (£607m) in the USA and $1.88bn globally.

The film starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Javier Bardem will premiere May 26, 2017, about two months earlier than its original release date.
