“I am so very sad”.

‘I sat outside his home in Beckenham and I was there at Victoria Station when he arrived back from Berlin’. We are all deeply saddened by this news.

But behind the scenes, Bowie was quietly telling a different story.

He added: ‘My childhood is peppered with memories of being a Bowie super fan and I have loved him constantly throughout my adult life.

‘I ran into him a few times when I first got famous but was always too intimidated to speak to him. He not only created the world that made it possible for our band to exist, he welcomed us into it with grace and warmth.

Commemorations… Crowds gathered outside the Ritzy cinema in south London to sing and pay homage to David Bowie.

“Who knows, but we’re sure you’ll want to join us in congratulating him on both”. I owe you a lot. And there really is a God – so do I buy that one?

And Moss’s sartorial tribute didn’t end there; her metallic purple platforms looked like they could have been borrowed from Bowie’s own archive, and we bet the Starman singer would have approved of her shaggy coat and top hat – just the sort of attire to disrupt the genteel neighbourhood of Highgate.

The singer’s recent collaborators described his work ethic as tireless throughout his last phase, which included simultaneous work on the album, its accompanying videos and the theatre production, a nontraditional sequel to “The Man Who Fell to Earth”, the novel that inspired his 1976 film.

And biographer David Buckley told the Daily Mail that she had a profound effect on the singer, who wanted to give Lexi as normal an upbringing as possible after missing out on a lot with his son Zowie (later known as Duncan).

His producer Tony Visconti says Bowie seemed to know he was dying and released the album as a “parting gift”.

An unquestionable music legend by the time the new millennium came, David Bowie made his dramatic return to the music scene with the release of his 24th (!!) album, “The Next Day”, his first in a decade.
