In what may have been the worst Golden Globes awards show ever, LGBT fans were dealt a double blow as the biggest LGBT awards contenders missed out on the big prizes.

The Golden Globes, handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, are the first major film honors of the Hollywood awards season that culminates with the Oscars on February 28.

Other key winners included Sylvester Stallone who received a standing ovation as best supporting film actor for reprising his iconic role as boxer Rocky Balboa in “Creed”. The two films were also part of the DIFF line-up.

“The Revenant” lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio picked up his acting honours for the Best Actor for Motion Picture, Drama category, and Jennifer Lawrence was recognized for the second time with the Best Actress for Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy title, in her role as the maker of Miracle Mop in the film “Joy”.

Leonardo’s Titanic co-star Kate Winslet also had a delightful evening after picking up the Best Supporting Actress trophy for her role in Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs.

“The Son of Saul”, a Hungarian about the Holocaust, won for Best Foreign Language film.

“I have made a lot of movies that people just didn’t go see”, Damon said, adding he was glad that people liked “The Martian”, whose boxoffice collections reached almost $600 million.

Director of “The Revenant” Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu was very humbled after winning the “Best Director” award at the Golden Globes.

The Revenant also won Best Motion Picture Drama.

The moral of the story here is NOT to use this year’s Golden Globes winners as a sure bet when filling out your Oscar ballot – except maybe for Brie Larson…

Rachel Bloom won the best actress in a TV series – comedy for “Crazy Ex Girlfriend”.

As for the Television Series category, “Mr. Robot” and “Mozart in the Jungle” were awarded as the Best TV Series for the Drama and Comedy categories, respectively, while “Wolf Hall” got the recognition for Best TV Movie or Limited Series. “I wanted to be an actress before I wanted to be a singer, but music worked out first”, Lady Gaga said during her emotional speech.

Host of the night, British comedian, host and actor Ricky Gervais returned the platform with jokes that can only be described as crass, making one wonder why the Golden Globes insist on calling him back. Lady Gaga made her Golden Globe debut this year.

CONGRATULATIONS! Kate Winslet wins best supporting actress, 'Wolf Hall' wins
