In 2013, a Greyhound bus driver was blamed for an OH accident after “falling asleep or otherwise being distracted”, according to a lawsuit.

The Greyhound bus carrying 20 passengers and the driver rolled onto the centre divider of Highway 101, a major commuting thoroughfare, while heading north around 6:40 a.m., said Lanesha Gipson, a Greyhound spokeswoman.

The ensuing crash investigation is expected to involve Greyhound as well as the California Highway Patrol’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), which Brazil said was summoned to the area from San Luis Obispo.

CHP Sgt. Lisa Brazil said passengers on the bus told investigators that everyone on board was sleeping at the time of the crash.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene while the five were taken to a hospital immediately with life-threatening injuries, CHP officials said.

It’s unknown how many other vehicles were involved, but Cal Trans is reporting at least one auto was hit by debris from the bus. 13 other passengers suffered minor injuries and were also transported to a local hospital.

Antonio Olivera, 25, said his mother was a stay-at-home mom who loved to take care of her family and had immigrated to California in September.

The driver began his shift at 11:30 p.m.as he drove the bus from Los Angeles Monday with stops planned in San Jose, San Francisco and Oakland. There were 21 people, including the driver, aboard the bus when it crashed.

The accident is under investigation, and authorities say the driver will be asked to submit a blood sample to test for alcohol and drugs. Prosecutors were notified as a matter of protocol, Miceli said.

Northbound Highway 101 was shut down in the area while emergency crews responded to the scene.

The fatal victims, whose names were not released, died at the scene, said the officer.

“I thought she would die from getting sick and not from being ejected from a bus”, he said.
