Winter weather moving into North Carolina
Governor McCrory held a news conference this morning, he said “Given the snow and ice accumulations that are predicted, combined with gusty winds and already saturated grounds, this storm has serious potential”.

Governor Pat McCrory is urging North Carolinians to prepare for winter weather and monitor local forecasts as the state’s first significant winter storm of the season moves in later today. It also authorizes state agencies to identify and position resources for quick responses anywhere they are needed in Virginia.
American Airlines is canceling the bulk of its flights in the Northeast ahead of a substantial winter storm, and says it’s also grounding flights at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. “Ice accumulations of one-quarter inch or more can weaken tree limbs and lead to downed power lines”. In King a woman died after she lost control of her vehicle on William Fowler Road and ended up in a creek.
“Roads are expected to become snow and ice-covered early Friday, creating hazardous travel conditions”, the weather service said.
In order to avoid situations like those seen in recent times in Atlanta, Georgia and Washington, DC State Troopers will be checking all vehicles to see if they are abandoned or have people inside, tagging when they have been checked.

Delpiano planned to go to the grocery Thursday night so she wouldn’t have try to get out of her house Friday or Saturday, when ice and snow are possible.
“Our state agencies are ready for this winter storm”, North Carolina Emergency Management Director Mike Sprayberry said.
Authorities ask motorist to please use good judgement, even if you think you can handle driving in the snow, you are at risk.
Winter weather is heading to North Carolina in a big way this weekend.
