Wisconsin Senate passes Planned Parenthood funding cut

The bill does not expressly forbid funding for Planned Parenthood, to avoid the loss of Title X funds, but the effect should be the same once the budget is decided by lawmakers, Wise said. Trujillo’s bill doesn’t have a Senate sponsor and a House bill modeled on the Texas law requiring doctors have hospital admitting privileges has not yet earned a committee hearing in Tallahassee.

A senate committee on Thursday passed a bill that would allow the state to reduce funding for Planned Parenthood in Kentucky. “But I don’t see Rep. Trujillo’s bill as encouraging people to have back alley abortions”. The proposed legislation, Senate Bill 455, would make a fourth OWI a felony and would remove the cap on the fine and prison sentence.

Fortunately, the bill does not yet have a Senate sponsor, so there’s a chance it may stall and die.

Under the bill, family planning clinics could only bill Medicaid for the actual acquisition cost plus a dispensing fee for prescription drugs obtained through Medicaid’s 340B program. “Unity is the Title X grantee for the District of Columbia”.

“These regulations have nothing to do with protecting women and everything to do with shutting down providers by placing unreasonable and costly requirements on health care centers”, said Anna Eskanami, director of public policy and field operations for the Planned Parenthood affiliate.

“This is a bill that will protect and enhance women’s health”, said Rep. Scott Plakon, R-Longwood, a member of the committee.

Republicans in the state Legislature continued their hatchet job on Planned Parenthood this week, chopping millions in support and reimbursement payments to the agency and leaving in doubt the ability of too many women – especially the poor and uninsured – to access appropriate health care. Democrats blasted the proposal as a vindictive attempt to hurt Planned Parenthood using the videos as a pretext.
