While it seems like a pilot program is being rolled out at first (the Sprout Pro is being tested in 60 leading schools), as things stand, a wider release is expected some time next month.
Louis Kim, global head and general manager of Immersive Computing at HP said “Sprout Pro adds tools for creative professionals, students and instructors to the groundbreaking Sprout platform”, adding that features like instant 2D and 3D scanning, augmented reality and an immersive dual screen is now aided by pro-apps and enhanced security. Additionally, big brands like Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Nvidia are said to be working on ways to incorporate their own technologies and services into the Sprout Pro platform.
The Sprout Pro largely keeps to the same design as the earlier model, providing an all-in-one PC with a clip-on touch mat that attaches in front.
Customized software from companies like Adobe and Autodesk allow Sprout Pro to have a variety of different functions. Part of HP’s Blended Reality ecosystem and vision for the future of computing, Sprout and HP Multi Jet Fusion are created to break down the barriers between the digital and physical worlds. And by unique, we mean emphasizing its built-in projector and touch mat over the standard keyboard and mouse combo.
The new generation Intel® Core™ i7 processors with DDR4 memory for additional processing power and integrated graphics performance.
HP External Display Mixer, meanwhile, allows users to share content from the screen, webcam, or downward-facing camera.
HP representatives are boasting about how the Sprout Pro will revolutionize classrooms and conferences, but it may not change that much if it the PC doesn’t sell well. The Sprout Pro also has pro-level document scanning and optical character recognition with features like custom resolution, exposures, color or grayscale and scan destinations. HP is going to roll out the device in February with a price of more than $2,000.
Schmedlen added that with Sprout Pro, students will get a chance to have a “hands-on learning experience so they can take ideas from thought to expression like never before”. It also features a special version of Skype for Business, which can capture 2D footage. The Sprout Pro, along with the new Intel chip and Windows 10 Professional, also comes with 1TB of storage, and Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11ac WiFi connectivity.
