Microsoft claims that the faulty power cords can overheat if they are, “wound too tightly, twisted or pinched over an extended period of time”. Microsoft also stressed that only a few customers have been impacted by the problem but the voluntary recall would allow anyone to hand in their AC power cables for the particular models and get a free replacement. You might want to keep a close eye on it the next time you plug it in – the power adaptors could be a fire risk. Meanwhile, other customers affected in other countries will soon have their own recall and replace dates announced, shortly after this has been effected in the U.S., the company source explained.

The Channelnomics report also said that the recall would affect all Surface Pro models sold before July 2015.
Anyone who bought one of the aforementioned Surface Pro hybrid tablet computers before 15 March 2015 in the US and Canada, and before 15 July 2015 worldwide, is recommended to take part in the recall and obtain a replacement power cord. Microsoft has made up their mind about the Microsoft Surface Pro recall.

The replacement program does not apply to the Surface RT, Surface 2, Surface 3, Surface Pro 4, Surface Book or any Surface Pro docking stations. You can find out if your device is affected by checking your serial number at Microsoft’s Surface. Surface owners aren’t required to send in their old power cords to receive a replacement, but Microsoft advises that affected users decommission and discard these immediately.
