Overall, Sundance received 4,081 submissions for feature films, of which 98 were approved for world premiere slots. He said he’s most looking forward to the audience reaction to the 195 films picked for this year’s line up.

Like always, Redford was in top shape during the conversation, which took place at Park City’s own Egyptian Theatre.
Redford, however, stressed that he values diversity in film.
“I’ve been a part of [the mainstream] and very happily a part of that”, he said.
He’s most excited for the audience’s reaction.. “People aren’t aware of the pressures”. His new film Operation Avalanche depicts an undercover mission during the Cold War in which young Central Intelligence Agency agents pose as documentary filmmakers to uncover a potential Russian mole inside NASA.

But these days, wherever prominent filmmakers are, questions about diversity follow. It’s a word I’ve operated from personally most of my life: the value of the word independent. “If you’re independent-minded, you’re going to do things differently than the common form”.
