Geneseo police: Man ‘distraught’ over breakup stabbed ex-girlfriend, man and himself

The body of 24-year-old former student Colin Kingston was also found at the home on Sunday and police say they are confident he was the killer and he acted alone. The three were students, both former and current, at State University of New York Geneseo, The Buffalo News reported. Kingston found her with another student, 24-year-old Matthew Hutchinson, of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Annese played basketball for Geneseo.

“One of the Christmas parties, Matthew was the guy who dressed as Santa when the players had their gift exchange”, says Douglas.

“We believe it was something that happened quickly”, he said of the killings. He previously played for several teams in the BCHL. He planned to one day become a firefighter, Douglas said, adding the North Vancouver native was a leader on and off the ice. “I can’t imagine as a parent losing a child who had so many accomplishments already and only had more to gain”, he said. Just great people, great family. “I think the most effective release we’ve had so far is just getting them to share stories”.

Investigators think the killings happened between 5:30 a.m., when officers ticketed cars on the street and didn’t see Kingston’s vehicle, and 6:21 a.m., when Kingston called his father, Szczesniak said.

He said Colin Kingston, a former student at the same school, called his father early Sunday morning to say he’d gone to the house and killed his ex-girlfriend and would also end his own life. Annese and Hutchinson were found dead at 18 Wadsworth St. with fatal stab wounds.

Police say Kingston and Annese had dated for about three years – and after the break-up he had made some suicidal comments to people.

“We are confident that the perpetrator in this situation was Mr. Kingston and that there were no co-conspirators or anybody else that we’re looking for so therefore there would be no charges”. Annese hailed from Webster, N.Y, majored in education/Spanish, minored in psychology and was a member of the women’s basketball team, the school said on its website.

“Very shocking. It’s not normal for a small town like this”, Johnson said. “Thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family”, wrote White Rock man Scott Durham.

Jeffrey Szczesniak, public information officer for Geneseo police.

Denise Battle, president of the university, said counsellors have been provided for Hutchinson and Annese’s teammates and for all students and faculty at the university that is about a 35-minute drive from Rochester, N.Y.

The college has scheduled a remembrance ceremony for Wednesday at 7 p.m.in Kuhl Gymnasium in the Merritt Athletic Center on campus.

She was remembered by coach Scott Hemer as a selfless team member and an intensely hard worker.
