Steve Harvey heard happy news when he recently sat down with Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez for the first time since he wrongly momentarily declared her the victor of the Miss Universe pageant. But the two had lighter moments during the Tuesday, January 19 meeting as well, like when they laughed at memes inspired by the incident.
In December Harvey shocked the world when he accidentally announced that Gutierrez had been crowned Miss Universe when in fact the victor was Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. I felt humiliated. ‘Oh my God I’m not Miss Universe, what am I gonna do now? “It’s so insane. I want some healing to be done, for you and Miss Colombia, more than anything”. I don’t mind Miss Colombia sharing the limelight with me because of what happened.
It wasn’t all emotional; the duo kept things somewhat lighthearted, with Gutierrez pointing out that not only did Harvey fool her into thinking she was the victor for a few minutes, he also kept pronouncing her name wrong.
When Wurtzbach was on the show earlier this week, she told Harvey that he need not feel badly over the mistake any longer.
In case you’re wondering, Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez isn’t laughing about this yet.
Then she pointed to the back screen (which flashed Harvey’s moment of realization) and said, “Look at your face”. “Steve, don’t beat yourself up for this anymore”, she said.
“Now I can say it was the worst night of my life, but it was the best one too…”
“I never thought of suing”, Gutierrez said. “I was laughing. If you see the videos, I was laughing, because I thought you were about to make a joke”, she admitted.

On Monday, Harvey also made sure that Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach forgave him as well – and had her confirm to the audience that he was present at every rehearsal.
