Overwatch beta re-launching in February with new game mode

The game director on Blizzard’s inaugural journey into the world of first-person shooters, Jeff Kaplan, has announced on the Overwatch forums earlier today that while the beta won’t be kicking off again until next month, there will be a new present to compensate.

With an emphasis on accessibility and pure fun, Overwatch brings Blizzard’s signature easy-to-learn, hard-to-master gameplay to the FPS genre. Now of course we realize how absurd this sounds, and such an idea won’t even work within the current framework of Overwatch, which is exclusively about heroes, controlled by players.

If you are part of the Overwatch Closed Beta and you’re wondering when the game will be coming back online, you won’t have to wait much longer.

“We’re very excited about it!” he added.

“Our goal was to have all of that work completed before bringing the Closed Beta back online, and our hope was to have that goal complete by middle to late January”.

Overwatch is getting a new game mode that will support new maps, but the company is unwilling to deliver any kind of information about its unique mechanics or the inspiration for its creation.

While the studio could not give an exact date for when the Overwatch beta will be back, it estimated sometime in “mid-February” and assured fans that it does no intend to let it get pushed back into March. But what is the new game mode all about? This will also allow us to do some additional polish to the game’s progression and reward system. The next private test phase, which is being organised in order to get the multiplayer game ready for its Q2 2016 launch, is now scheduled for mid-February.

Regardless of what we think or want, the game mode will most definitely be a team versus team match, with an end goal or objective, from the looks of things.
