The veteran actor said the consequences of a so-called Brexit were “scary” but so were those of being “dictated to by thousands of faceless civil servants”.

Caine, victor of two Academy Awards, offered advice to black actors: “Be patient”.

“Unless there are some extremely significant changes, we should get out”, he said on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, adding: “I sort of feel certain we should come out”. Get better, work harder, try harder and then you’ll be a success’.
