One can never really know, but perhaps the black actors did not deserve to make the final list…Why classify people?

The British actress opened up to the French Radio network Europe 1 Friday morning, where she said that she disagreed about all the outrage that has been surrounding this year’s Oscars. “And so we’re going to classify everything to make thousands of little minorities everywhere?”

“We can not support it and (I) mean no disrespect… but, how is it possible for the second consecutive year all 20 contenders under the acting category are white?”

“It’s in the other direction, it’s racist… to whites”, Rampling, nominated for her role in Andrew Haigh’s romantic drama “45 Years”, told French radio. The next day the president of the academy acknowledged the lack of diversity and pledged “big changes”. But perhaps the black players do not deserve to be in the final stretch, “added the actress”.

Following his wife’s lead, Will Smith became the latest figure in the industry to say he would not be attending this year’s Academy Awards. These days everyone is more or less accepted…

According to the New York Times, Charlotte Rampling refused to further comment on the #OscarsSoWhite controversy when she was asked to share her opinion about the minority actors and actresses who feel like they are deserving of recognition but simply aren’t getting any.

Now, Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling is offering a controversial take on the boycott. The #OscarsSoWhite backlash also got the Academy to hopefully take action to boost diversity among its voting members in the future.

“I am both heartbroken and frustrated about the lack of inclusion (in the nominations)”, she said. “You have to give a good performance and I’m sure people have”.
