A sheriff’s office in OR released video of the rescue earlier this month of a toddler who ran into the middle of a highway.

Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Gautney was driving on US 101 in the coastal city of Newport on January 9, when he noticed the boy running towards his patrol auto, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.

The deputy spotted the boy and slammed on his breaks to avoid hitting him… Deputies say the incident was accidental and no criminal charges were brought against the parents.

“Refrain from texting, cell phone use and other distractions in your vehicle while in motion, as dangers present themselves when least expected”, Lopez said.

The following video is for educational purposes and not meant to ridicule or question those involved.

The child was not hurt and was returned to his parents.

Lincoln County Deputy Jeremy Gautney was stunned to see the 2-year-old suddenly appear in the road as cars drove past.
