Miley Cyrus to host MTV Video Music Awards

If history has taught us anything, it’s Miley Cyrus can put on a show and surprise everyone, for better or worse, despite haters bemoaning her antics and wrongfully predicting the downfall of her career.

The pop star is set to host MTV’s Video Music Awards, airing next month.

Cyrus announced the gig by posting a photo of herself in an alien costume with sandwich boards that read “MTV won’t let me perform” and “so I’m hosting this year’s VMAs”.

MTV confirmed the news and shared Cyrus’s photos on Twitter, but it did not retweet the 22-year-old’s expletive-laced tweet.

Two years after twerking her way into MTV history, Miley Cyrus will be hosting the cable channel’s Video Music Awards. The VMA nominations will be released on Tuesday.

The VMAs will air live from L.A’s Microsoft Theatre on Monday August 31.

Last year, Beyoncé nearly stunned us into speechlessness with a medley from her self-titled album, Nicki Minaj took us to the jungle for “Anaconda” and then joined Ariana Grande and Jessie J to really make things go “Bang Bang.”

Past VMA hosts have typically been comedians rather than musicians, including Kevin Hart, Chelsea Handler and Russell Brand.
