The speeding Mercedes rammed into two other vehicles before climbing on the pavement and running over the sleeping persons.

The incident occurred around midninght at Mohammed Ali road when the white Mercedes, with a Jharkhand number plate, drove over a pavement, crashing into a Toyota vehicle.
After the accident, the driver, Haji Amin Khan, fled the scene near Masjid Bunder in south Mumbai.

The injured have been identified as Munira Shaikh(25), Alisha Shaikh (40), Rashida Shaikh (25), Rahul Shaikh (4) and Ayesha Khan (40). Amin who is a contractor, escaped from the spot and was arrested by the police from near JJ Hospital. The report said that four women and one child were among the five people who were injured in the incident. The victims, who suffered minor injuries, were rushed to hospital and four of them were discharged. Officials inform that he was never arrested in the said case and they are clueless how the accused had stayed out of police clutches.
