Australian Open 2016 from 18 January – 31 January 2016.
“In those first few moments you feel a bit rusty, but the feeling of hitting the ball, even though you’re not playing points, when that comes back to me, I’m like: ‘This is what I love to do.’ There’s no better feeling”. Puig didn’t win another game after that.
“I just feel like I’m not as nervous when I go to the court”, she said.
“I think it’s a proud number”, Sharapova said of her milestone after the match. 6-4, 7-6, 7-6; Nishikori d. She pulled out a jar of almond butter and ate a couple spoonfuls before starting the third set. “But overall it’s not constantly on my mind, how many matches I’ve won in my career”.
Sharapova said she had managed to find a good balance between tennis, her personal life and her flourishing business career as she gets older.
She added: “Martina always tries to help me a lot, which I’m very thankful for”.
Jack Sock’s disappointing results at Grand Slam tournaments continue. She has won 21 Grand Slam titles, including six Australian Opens, and is still going strong.
After producing one of the biggest upsets ever in women’s tennis, Vinci lost in the final to fellow Italian Flavia Pennetta.
Gavrilova, ranked 39th in the world, had never been past the second round of a grand slam before this tournament and will now play Spain’s 10th seed Carla Suarez Navarro for a place in the quarter-finals.
It was a wet start to the fourth day at Melbourne Park but it was business as usual for Maria Sharapova under the roof of Rod Laver Arena. He faces a tougher proposition next: Federer.
Sharapova notched up her 600 career win, but was made to work hard at it, after being taken to three sets by USA’s Lauren Davis.
After about a 15-minute delay, play resumed. Seven doubles matches have been postponed.
But her concentration waned and Davis won her first break point of the match, with Sharapova’s backhand into the net levelling it at 2-2.
After exchanging holds, Sharapova picked up right where she left off in the early stages of the second set, breaking in the third game at the sixth time of asking.
If the fourth-round results go on rankings, she’ll meet No. 5 Maria Sharapova in a quarterfinal match that will feature both of last year’s finalists. Their third round matches however were not as straightforward.
“In the first set I was sore but after treatment I felt better”, he said. The fifth-seeded Sharapova will next play No. 12 Belinda Bencic.
Bencic won only 8 receiving points in the first set and struggled on her second serve winning 2 of 8 points.
“Yeah, an impressive player”.
Earlier on Rod Laver, 2008 champion Maria Sharapova collected her 600th win at tour level. Federer will play David Goffin.

Defending champions and top-ranked Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic had matches starting at the same time on nearby courts.
