“According to him, he said he dropped the gun and it went off”, Renton Police Department spokesperson David Leibman said to KOMO.

The man, who police believe was was intoxicated, fumbled with the gun, which accidentally discharged and hit a 40-year-old woman seated nearby in the shoulder.

The woman was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition, say firefighters.

A man later called 911 from his home to turn himself in and was arrested in Newcastle on Thursday night.

Police say the 29-year-old suspect told them he had been drinking and dropped the handgun and it went off, striking the woman in the torso. The man reportedly said he had been drinking before the shooting, which was accidental.

Nathaniel Hansen, who was in the theater, said he heard “just one loud pop”. The incident happened during a showing of the movie “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi”.

“We have witnesses that say he came into the theater and appeared intoxicated”. The man left out of the theater’s front door while still holding his pistol, he said.
