Buhari hosts 1985 Golden Eaglets, 2015 sport heroes
The team handled by coach Sebastien Brodericks won the inaugural edition of the Federation Internationale de Football Association U17 World Cup staged in China.

President Muhammadu Buhari has given each member of the 1985 Nigeria U17 team the sum of two million naira with Emmanuel Amuneke’s boys receiving a sum of 1.2 million for their triumph in Chile.
At a reception which held in honour of the players at old Banquet Hall of the state house in Abuja, Buhari said the compensating was not for them winning laurels for the country but a token of appreciation for their patriotic efforts.
The members of the 2015 FIBA African Women Championship, where Nigeria won silver medal, got $2,000 each, the coaches went home with $2,000 while the team officials got $900 each.
Rewarded were the aforementioned ’85 Class of U-16 players and their coaches; men and women basketballers; powerlifters; world scrabble champion Wellington Jighere and officials; boxer Olanrewaju Durodola; athletes and officials; the U-17 world champion footballers and; the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations winners.
Buhari, however, caused a stir when he first mistakenly announced rewards of N200million each for the 1985 Eaglets.
Sequel to President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent trip to the United Arab Emirates UAE for the World Future Energy Summit where he met with the UAE government officials and signed agreement to help Nigeria recover all her stolen funds lodged in the country.
