The weekend search included 70 people, six snowmobiles, two snowcats and two helicopters when the weather allowed, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities immediately launched a search and rescue effort.
Nonetheless crews on the ground searched an area that recently had an avalanche and was where May’s phone last pinged.
17, 11 a.m.: Searchers have begun another day of looking for a missing ski instructor at the Sugar Bowl Resort near Donner Summit.
A sighting of tracks leading into a recent snow-slide area near led searchers back to the spot at dawn Sunday in the hunt for Carson May.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office on Friday identified the skier as Carson May, of Davis, Calif., who works at Sugar Bowl’s Mountain Sports Learning Center as a ski school instructor.
The search continued Monday morning with 43 people on site, according to Monson.
Searchers will return to the Sierra Nevada mountains surrounding Sugar Bowl ski resort this morning to resume their search for a ski instructor missing since Thursday. Additionally, Sheriff’s say his belongings are still in his locker at the resort.
