Bullets flew after a group of people stopped to help the driver whose vehicle had slid off a road in Catawba at around 5:20pm on Friday. Lee became belligerentand the three men made a decision to call the police, authorities said. The driver, identified as Marvin Lee, was allegedly intoxicated.

He’s being held at the Catawba County Jail where he is now facing a murder charge.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office told ABC News that the people thought something was odd about the man, so they were going to call police.

After the shooting, Lee returned to his vehicle and refused to get out until SWAT arrived and found him passed out, police said.

According to Reid, Lee still had the murder weapon, a pistol, on him when he was arrested, WTVM reported.
