DiCaprio, who won a Golden Globe as best dramatic actor for his role in The Revenant, dedicated his award to the First Nations communities and indigenous people.
Sam Esmail’s hit television series “Mr. Robot” took home the prize for Best Drama Series during the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.
Actress-singer Lady Gaga won her first nomination and victory as best actress in a limited series or motion picture for her role as the countess in “American Horror Story: Hotel“.
The cast of Amazon.com’s “Mozart in the Jungle” celebrates the show’s Golden Globe win for best television series, musical or comedy.
Kate Winslet won her fourth career Golden Globe for her supporting role in the drama “Steve Jobs”. Only four out of the last 15 winners of best picture drama went on to win the Oscar (“12 Years a Slave”, “Argo”, “Slumdog Millionaire”, “Gladiator”) and only two of the last 15 have won it after scoring best picture comedy or musical (“The Artist” and “Chicago”).
Musical or Comedy (yes, the harrowing tale of survival against long odds is apparently a comedy), and star Matt Damon took home the Best Actor hardware in the same category. The Revenant was also named best picture.
At a bleep-filled, irreverent ceremony Sunday in Beverly Hills, Calif., Ricky Gervais presided over a Globes that seemed to risk unraveling before the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s show coalesced its support for “The Revenant” and “The Martian”.
Under the Drama category, Jon Hamm from “Mad Men” was the Best Actor, while Taraji P. Henson from “Empire” was the Best Actress.
“I want to thank my imaginary friend Rocky Balboa for being the best friend I ever had”, said Stallone, whose only other Golden Globes nod was also for portraying the Italian Stallion in “Rocky”.
“Listen, if you do win tonight, remember no one cares about that award as much as you do”, he said.
Actor Sylvester Stallone was given a standing ovation by the audience as he won the best supporting actor in a motion picture for “Creed”.
Gervais’ snark aside, the Golden Globes have worked for years to shed an image of eccentric selections made by a group of little-known global journalists.
