One Iowa city, two messages for Clinton and Sanders

CLINTON, Iowa (AP) – Hillary Clinton dialed back some of her biting attacks on rival Bernie Sanders on Saturday, refocusing on Republicans and her own experience in President Barack Obama’s administration as she launched her closing argument to voters in Iowa.

The Iowa Caucuses are on February 1st.

What’s more they think that since last week’s debate in Charleston, the window is opening wider. She said she is not “angry so much as disappointed and concerned… for the future for our children and grandchildren, in terms of the income disparity”. The announcement drew mixed and emotional responses from Iowa residents. Ted Cruz is still within striking distance of the juggernaut that is Donald Trump.

The young journalists are discovering Iowa residents, who are accustomed to being in the political spotlight, aren’t shy about their thoughts. “I absolutely hate corporations”, said Dunn, who is planning to be a teacher. “People are very excited about the caucuses”. What proved decisive for Obama was that the surge in first-time caucus participants benefited him far more than it did Clinton. Both candidates planned to spend most of the next week in Iowa as they seek to start off the primary voting with a win. “It’s hard to see it grow to the point it becomes a real threat to Secretary Clinton’s campaign”.

“It’s like inviting one of the arsonists to join the firefighters, not to mention the fact that it would be putting more Iranian firepower right on Israel’s doorstep”, Sullivan said.

The campaigns are reluctant to offer their precise estimates of turnout, in part because they do not want to signal some of their organizational goals. “They’re attending the rallies and getting information more than anything”, Schnebeck said.

Hillary Clinton bluntly acknowledged Friday that she is trailing Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire, telling an audience at a women’s health dinner in Concord that she’s been here before and knows what it takes to come back. The entire speech clocked in at under five minutes. Instead, she gave several generic comments, shook some hands and left.

“They’re trying to figure out which one is best”. Those pulling for the candidate that doesn’t meet the threshold are given two options – change sides or go home. Sanders said. “When candidates and campaigns get nervous, they start throwing out a bunch of stuff”. She put aside most of her direct criticism of Sanders, except on gun control as well as on health care, as she warned against the senator’s call for a government-paid system.

Demi Lovato, performed three songs, including her hit “Confident”, before Clinton took the stage.

Sanders is a fierce opponent of super political action committee, which can collect unlimited donations.

“He has a lot of support here”. “But it’s ultimately not a winning general election message, it’s a protest message”. But she seems to still believe that she will benefit politically if she continues siding with the neocons and their “liberal interventionist” side-kicks. “He’s really going to get some attention from the press once he wins two states in a row, and then he is going to win SC”.

O’Malley is struggling to gain ground at only 4 percent.
