Among those who proposed Mr. Shah’s name today are Union Ministers Anant Kumar, J P Nadda and M. Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Ministers Vasundhara Raje (Rajasthan), Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Madhya Pradesh) and Raghubar Das (Jharkhand).

Shah, who is a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi serving as BJP president since 2014, will serve as the party’s head until 2019.

Amit Shah on Sunday was re-elected as BJP president.

With no other contender, his re-election for a fresh three-year term was considered as only a formality.

Senior BJP leaders earlier in the day lauded Shah’s political acumen while expressing confidence that the party would scale new heights under his steward leadership.

BJP sources, however, insist Shah’s “energetic and focused” leadership has strengthened the party by pushing its membership across the country and expanding its reach in Assam, Kerala and West Bengal, where the party had never been a force to be reckoned with.

Shah had taken over as the party chief in the middle of Rajnath Singh’s term after Singh joined the government as home minister in May 2014. LK Advani, MM Joshi, Yashwant Sinha, Shatrughan Sinha gave ceremony a miss, thus raising many questions.

“Amit bhai combines grassroot-level work and rich organizational experience which will benefit the party immensely”, Modi added.

The announcement of Shah’s unopposed election for the top party post was made at the BJP headquarter in Delhi.
