Anfield win a big title boost — LVG
With leader Arsenal drawing 0-0 at Stoke, United is only seven points out of first place.

United manager Louis van Gaal is more delusional than we thought if he really believes, as he said after today’s win, that his side are now title contenders.
Van Gaal said: “It is seven points and seven points we can overcome that”.
Rooney, who now has five goals in his past four outings in all competitions, had not scored at Anfield since January 2005.
“The goal was to defend and we didn’t do it. That is our responsibility”.
“It’s a great victory and three points we needed to continue our start to this year, it’s a massive win for us”.
“We have a lot of matches still to go”.
Defeat leaves Liverpool in ninth position in the top-flight table, eight points adrift of fourth-placed Spurs after just two wins in their past eight league matches. “Everyone wants to see Rooney scoring”.
For Louis van Gaal, the victory will ease, for the moment, some of the pressure that had been building after a poor run of results, and the Dutchman couldn’t hide his relief.
“A lot of the things we did today were good”, Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said.
“I think it can refresh you and spur you on a bit more to prove to everyone just how good you are, and people don’t forget that”.
On ESPNFC, Jurgen Klopp says that Liverpool should not have lost to United.
United came out for the second half fired up after their row and Rooney nicked the victor with a well-taken volley.
While Rooney was the match-winner with the visitors’ only shot on target, David de Gea made the 1-0 win possible with a string of saves and was by far the busier of the two goalkeepers.
The Old Trafford outfit were collectively apoplectic over the amount of times they gave the ball away in the first half and vowed to do better in the second. We create two chances and scored one of them.
Rooney struck home his goal after Marouane Fellaini had headed an effort off the crossbar from a Juan Mata cross, with a corner kick having been played short to the Spaniard. Then we lost Rooney…goal.
“The way that we played and the chances that we had (against Manchester United) we need to be winning the game but we never did”.

“We conceded a sloppy goal at a set-piece against Arsenal and [against United] it was a good header”.
