Google Decouples Google+ From Its Android Gaming Service

Over the weekend, Google announced changes to Play Games permissions that are mostly meant for developers, but regular users who game on Android will also see a benefit.

Another big change, which comes with this update is the non-requirement of an upgraded Google+ account to access Google Play Services. The games will be a tad easier to play without the sign-in nag screens.

And you’ll be automatically signed in, though you can turn off that in settings if you want.

According to this change, players are now prompted to sign in once per account rather than once per game. There are just “too many steps” to get to the point where users can make purchases, and that is hindering developers from rightfully earning from their creations.

In what appears to be another instance of Google decoupling Google+ from other services, Google Play Games, the Mountain View company’s online gaming service and SDK, will let you play your games without signing into Google+.

In a blog post by Wollf Dobson, a developer advocate, he stated that “Once a user has signed it for the first time, new games will be able to sign them in without any interaction”. Sign-ins will be automatic to each new game, but the sign-ins are also protected so that the privacy of the user is not in any way compromised. Unless you are depending on Google+ features, you see no change in functionality and a smoother experience if you do nothing.

A new player will just have to sign in once to get a player ID and never have to sign in again.
