Street Fighter V Busts Out a Free Story Expansion

The Street Fighter V story mode will be a huge part of the february 16 release date.

The story expansion, then, appears to be the major story and narrative component of the game; it won’t be available right at launch, but you should be able to get it for free by June. Much of this comes out of Netherrealm Studios who managed to wrap Mortal Kombat and Injustice in silly but interesting stories and mini-games while keeping them mostly about kicking other people in the face.

There’s more to Street Fighter 5 than losing online. “He’s such an iconic figure in Street Fighter’s history”.

“What we found out is, by selling upgrade packs, only a percentage of the community would end up upgrading, and it ended up creating all these sub-communities where people were playing on different balanced iterations”, says Capcom’s director of brand marketing and eSports, Matt Dahlgren.

Completing these character stories players can earn “Fight Money”. The first post launch content for Street Fighter V will be released in March. Despite the widespread use of fight sticks, inter-splicing footage with controllers (which are used, on occasion, by top-performing players at tournament) and the PS4 console further adds to the notion of belonging with their console, in addition to fighting games in general. And the free story-mode update coming in June should be icing on the cake for big fans of the series, particularly if the demand Ono saw for such a feature is accurate. The Cinematic Story Expansion is what we have to wait four months for. This could really help to expand the game’s longevity…provided the fans actually care about the story and characters.

Character stories (each character has their own storyline that provides background information and reveals their relationships to the other characters) come with the game when it’s released in February.
