“We want to ensure our communities are prepared and have the resources they need in the event they do have a fire that they have the proper measures to get out safely”, said Shana Beal, a disaster program specialist for the American Red Cross.
Two house fires just outside the Charleston area displaced three people over the cold weekend.

One man was killed and a woman was injured in a house fire in Valley City early Sunday morning.
Investigators said the home did have working smoke detectors.

“Those shelter supplies include everything from cots to blankets, to water, snacks to make sure that we can help in any of their immediate needs that need to be met. They have nursing kits standard in every shelter”, said Executive Director Bill Brent.
