Apple working on new 4-inch iPhone

Following up a Friday report from 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman that Apple’s long-rumored 4-inch iPhone will be called the ‘iPhone 5se, ‘ we might now have our first look at the smaller device.

It looks like the phone will inherit a few other iPhone 6 design features, such as the relocated sleep button and rounded volume buttons. The new “se” version will apparently have upgraded software and hardware, blending features of both the older phone model and tweaks that have come with the past two iPhone upgrades.

According to 9to5Mac the “special edition” of the iPhone 5 will bring back the 4-inch screen for users uncomfortable with the increased size of the 6 and 6 Plus.

The next not-so-big thing?… a leaked photo claiming to show the new iPhone 5se.

The chamfered, shiny edges of the 5S has been replaced with curved glass like what is found on the IPhone 6 and 6S.

It is important to note that Live Photos will not take advantage of the 3D Touch technology, since the iPhone 5se’s screen will be similar to the display of the iPhone 5s.

The iPhone 5se will come out with a rear camera of 8-MP insight, and a 1.2-MP front camera for Face Time, these sensor combinations were previously seen on the iPhone 6. If the new iPhone costs near or around the same what the iPhone 5s costs now, Apple will surely make a killing at Samsung’s expense.

Apple is expected to discontinue the 5S once the 5SE is announced, so it should end up taking the 5S’s spot in Apple’s lineup, selling for $450. Color options include Silver, Gold, Rose Gold and Space Gray. Rumor has it the company could also use the opportunity to debut an upgraded Apple Watch and the iPad Air 3.

Gurman said that with the launch of the new small devices, Apple is likely hoping a refresh to its smallest phone that will encourage people who haven’t upgraded to invest in Apple yet.
