Bakersfield travelers are feeling the effects of the epic East Coast blizzard that is canceling thousands of flights.

JetSmarter, a private plane sharing service, said it has private jets poised to leave from New Jersey and New York Saturday night with passengers bound for Miami and Los Angeles.

Flights coming from both Washington D.C. are airports, along with Baltimore, Philadelphia, and the three main New York City hubs had all been cancelled. There were a little more than 22,000 flights scheduled to, from or within the US, according to FlightAware. All that snow is creating a travel nightmare for airline passengers at San Francisco International Airport. Several states have already issued a state of emergency because of the severity of the storm. Airlines have been much more proactive in recent years about canceling flights, often doing so up to a day in advance.

Airport managers suggest you call directly to the airline to check flight information before you try to fly out of OIA this weekend or if you are picking up a passenger. More travelers are affected, but they aren’t stuck waiting in airports.
