Panthers All-Pro linebacker has surgery, expected to play in Super Bowl

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Panthers coach Ron Rivera says All-Pro linebacker Thomas Davis had surgery Monday morning on his broken right forearm, but is expected to play in the Super Bowl. The early prognosis is it’s broken.

The Carolina Panthers lost two members of their defense in their NFC Championship trashing of the Arizona Cardinals but both Thomas Davis and Roman Harper are vowing to play in Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos.

It wouldn’t be shocking if Davis not only played on February 7, but actually wins Super Bowl M.V.P. “I guarantee you that”, Thomas said on Sunday night at Bank of America Stadium.

“It was extremely hard, but I knew the guys that were in the game were going to get the job done”, said Davis, who told reporters he broke his arm. His return was listed as questionable to the contest against the Arizona Cardinals.

He wore a sling on the sideline later in the game but wasn’t wearing it afterward in the locker room.

“I got two weeks to heal up, and I’m going to use every minute of that”, Davis said.

Defensive tackle Kawann Short said if anyone can make it back it would be Davis.

Davis has a well-earned reputation as one of the toughest players in the NFL. “If it comes down to a pain tolerance and playing through it, I’ll be there”. It hasn’t stopped him before.

“If he says he will be ready, I know he will be ready”, Rivera said. “You will have to take his jerseys away from him – all five of them, even the ones at home too – before he sits out this game”. Kalil returned in the second half to finish the game.
