The man, whose name is not known, was shot once by officers in a hallway of the Jacob Riis II house just after 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Cops said he refused to drop it. An officer fired at the suspect and a bullet struck him in the chest, going through the man’s body.
Police confiscated the knife at the scene. “A witness doubted the police report of the man showing off the knife”, reported the television station, “saying cops are ‘lying'”. The officers had been called about an emotionally disturbed man brandishing a knife at 911 FDR Drive, according to the New York City Police Department. The officers proceeded to the six floor of 765, and heard a “loud commotion” on the floor above.
Officers went to Apt 7E where they encounter the subject, a 25 year-old male armed with a knife.
The man was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he’s listed in stable condition, police said.
