Jay Z Sued For $18 Million By Parlux Fragrances

Parlux says it presented ideas for new lines called Gold Jay Z Noir, Gold Jay Z Paris Lights and Gold Jay Z London Underground. Continuing his pattern of nonresponsiveness in 2015, the rapper allegedly refused to meet with Parlux about “flanker” fragrances, new lines of fragrance under the Gold Jay Z line meant to capitalize on the success of the earlier brand.

Yet according to the suit against the rapper, the distributer claims that the rapper failed to make at least six promotional appearances he was slated to make, including an appearance on Good Morning America, an exclusive interview with Women’s Wear Daily and an in-store appearance at Macy’s. They claim they made a licensing agreement in which he would use his name and image to launch the cologne, but he was also supposed to make social media posts and promotional appearances.

“Jay Z declined… declined… declined… declined” six different times to participate, according to court papers.

He even rejected five prototypes for an 18-carat gold capped bottle designed by Jacob the Jeweler for a customer contest. Instead, they say the rapper’s inaction has left them unable to carry out the plan, and that a series of follow-up scents to the flagship cologne were never finished.

Jay Z’s legal woes continue as he is being sued by Perfumania Holdings Inc. At her request, they changed the color of some of the boxes but Carter still hasn’t signed off on the products, court papers say.

Jay Z has always been known for his smart business decisions, but one venture he chose to do could cost him millions of dollars.
